The Chateau Gütsch is an icon of Lucerne. Beloved by the local people, the building was constructed in 1888 and doubled up as a home and hotel. Here, luxury comes intertwined with pomp and style. Taking in the views from the Chateau’s terrace, which span the city, the lake and the mountains, is almost worth a visit all by itself.
All the rooms are equipped with cable TV, free minibar, and a bathroom with a bath or shower and a hairdryer. It also offers the guests 24-hour front desk, a tour desk, luggage storage and free private parking.

Against the picturesque banks of Geneva’s Lake Leman, every room in this family-run hotel offers scenic views over the lake or Jet d’Eau, Switzerland’s largest fountain. Its 39 guest rooms and six suites are decked out with plush fabrics, colorful furnishings, and eclectic artwork, and the hotel’s Window restaurant features classics like smoked salmon with caviar and foie gras. When entering the modern luxury castle, the main hall welcomes you looking straight ahead on Lake Lucerne. This heavenly view continues at the spa. A 21m long and 9m wide heated infinity pool with surrounding lake and mountain landscape views make you melt and feel like being in heaven. The inside has a modern black and white color scheme, clear lines and shapes surround the wellness oasis. Another attraction is the huge saltwater aquarium that stretches from floor to ceiling and covers an entire wall. For these reasons the hotel is being particularly favored for weddings, honeymoons and romantic celebrations. The Parkhotel Vitznau offers an intimate Private Spa Suite with special treatments, of course.

Beau-Rivage Palace, Lausanne
Set on ten acres of parkland overlooking Lake Geneva, this Belle Époque hotel is simply magical. The Art Nouveau rooms feature Oriental carpets and cathedral ceilings, and some offer views of the Alps. Anne-Sophie Pic, the restaurant helmed by and named after star chef Anne-Sophie Pic, serves contemporary French cuisine.

Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues Geneva
It’s hard to imagine a more natural fit than Four Seasons and Geneva, which is why the Canadian chain’s renovation of the celebrated Hotel des Bergues on the banks of the Rhone makes so much sense. The Hotel des Bergues features 103 rooms and suites with floor-to-ceiling windows and a quietly elegant Anglo-Franco townhouse decor—think almond green, Wedgewood blue, and terra cotta color schemes and toile de Jouy motifs—by Paris decorator Pierre Yves Rochor. Built in 1834, this old-world charmer has been updated with a rooftop Japanese restaurant and a 24-hours fitness center.

Fairmont Le Montreux Palace, Montreux
Used as a hospital to shelter Allied soldiers during both World Wars, this 1906 Belle Époque hotel on the shore of Lake Geneva and at the foot of the Alps scores perfectly for location. Baur au Lac, Zurich
Opened in 1844 and operated by the same family ever since, this property has hosted the likes of Joan Miró and Plácido Domingo. The hotel is set in a garden near the luxurious Bahnhofstrasse shopping strip and looks onto Lake Zurich and the Alps. Rive Gauche is a chic Mediterranean restaurant, while the seasonal Rive Gauche Terrasse proves a popular spot for cocktails.

Badrutt’s Palace Hotel, St. Moritz
Badrutt’s Palace doesn’t skimp on extravagance, which you’d expect from a St. Moritz hotel. The glamorous alpine hideaway overlooks the ski resort’s famous lake, and has been the go-to destination for celebrities and royalty since it first opened in 1896: Alfred Hitchcock became a loyal guest after spending his honeymoon there, and even an elephant once graced its halls. Complete with towers and turrets, the hotel feels straight out of a winter fairytale—with the views to boot—and the rooms and suites provide an upscale, toasty retreat after a day on the slopes or surrounding hiking trails.

Palace Luzern, Lucerne
Central to everything, this century-old neoclassical hotel on Lake Lucerne takes its design cues from the blues, greens, purples, and oranges of the surrounding lake, mountains, and evening sky. Rooms are decorated with bold prints and Murano glass fixtures, and the restaurant Jasper delivers sophisticated Mediterranean fare amid lake vistas.

Grand Hotel Kronenhof, Pontresina
Located only a few miles from St. Moritz, this Engadine valley resort offers sweeping views of the Roseg Glacier, as well as forests of Swiss stone pine and larch. This classic hotel (it opened in 1848), with its horseshoe-shaped facade, suggests Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel. While the nearby slopes will satisfy skiers, the hotel’s spa will give non-skiers plenty to do, too, and the restaurant offers Swiss classics like cheese fondue and raclette.

Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern, Lucerne
In quaint Lucerne, lakefront views come at a high premium. The best ones also happen to come with the best service at the Schweizerhof, which has been run by the same family for five generations. The grand lobbies will make you feel like you’ve been transported back in time. After a full day strolling Lucerne’s picturesque streets, head to the restaurant for meals prepared by a rotating list of acclaimed chefs.

Remember to book as soon as possible because the prices do go up (and well, you really could do with an exciting winter getaway)!
